Hey all. I'm afraid I may be asking a stupid question. (oh well!) But as of yet, I've not found the answer. Anybody know why some cosmetics on Hobbits prevent shoes from being displayed? Wondered if it was to be lore accurate or just a feature of that specific cosmetic..

Thanks :)

Thanks. I am aware of the lore, and in fact I normally run my hobbit toons without shoes anyway. (issue is primarily with a kinnie) But I'm wondering why some cosmetics allow shoes normally and others prevent them from being displayed... why the inconsistency. I've assumed I was missing something.

as far as i can recall fluff-only cosmetics hide shoes while stat gear allows for the use.

but then havent really paid much attention over the years as only my heavy armour wearing hobbits wear shoes and then only in combat

Hmm, my main is a hobbit and I've never noticed any of my cosmetic footwear not displaying. I'll try a few on next time I log in and double check.

well cosmetic footwear is a whole nother deal

im talking about 1-piece whole outfit cosmetics, such as dresses and tunic/pants they will display shoes only on non-hobbit races

There are some cosmetics with integrated shoes. Fisherman's vest is one, too, of all things.

This is the one thing that always confused me...

Why wear waders (which is what I see the pants portion of the Fisherman's Vest) with no shoes?  What is the point?  :)

Reminds me of the Cloak of the Sunset that was a pre-order reward for MoM.  For most characters, it was a hoodless cloak, but for Elves (male only, I don't remember) it bore a hood.

Yeah, this seems to be only with dresses or tunic/pant combination - and only on hobbits. But it's doesn't happen with robes or hauberks. The one piece ones also prevent gloves from showing, on all races I believe.

I can have my Inn League tunic and pants slotted to an outfit, add festival cosmetic footwear, and it won't show.
Same tunic/pant moved to an Elf, boots show. Most dresses include footwear for Elves and Men yes? Put that same dress on a hobbit and only bare feet show.

I guess they're helping out with lore realism, but I'd rather have the choice sometimes... and the inconsistency annoys a little. :P

The cosmetics systems in LOTRO is very good but some things could use a little TLC:

  • Shields should be cosmetic
  • Weapons might be cosmetic, too, and just like you can turn off gloves display you can turn off glow
  • Hooded cloaks should have an option to turn off the hood instead of always overriding the head slot
  • Shoe integration shouldn't be mandatory, switch should be nice
  • [dreaming] long hair styles shouldn't be sacrificed for cloaks anymore
  • [dreaming] sword in sheaf

One switch per cosmetic item as slotted would do. I see a very high payoff there.

Agreed. Dreaming or not, that would be really great. Hooded cloaks or any head wear for that matter.

Sword in sheaths would be smart; my poor cloak would be cut to shreds by now... and my mount! Or for that matter, the halberd on the back of my Cap, poking through the cloak like that is kinda silly.
