Rofl, yay.

Oh, huh. The Steam Starter Pack seems to be good value for the money. Get something like a Derudh Stone too, apparently. And 3 reasonably big regions. A horsey, and even 1k TP which basically is the value of the whole pack itself.

this has some decent potential as Steam just loves to make sale bundles.

Huh, I hadn't thought of the implications of that yet. What if Steam starts to offer the expansions in a future date? Yes, they can be pretty decent at offering sales.

I've only ever used Steam for one game and don't really understand how it works. Would it be possible to move an existing LOTRO account into Steam? If so, would there be any advantages?

I did just for convenience as I have many games in Steam so wanted to keep them all in one place.

Simply start to download LOTRO from Steam but cancel it as soon as it starts and close Steam.

You should now see the folder

C:\<program files>\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Lord Of The Rings Online

Copy your old installation of LOTRO into that folder, now open Steam again and resume the download of LOTRO, it may still download some files but its quicker than downloading the whole thing. You can now launch LOTRO from Steam.

The only real benefit from my point of view is having a large number of my games in one place with fewer shortcuts everywhere, I like just being able to start all my games from within Steam.

Edit: Also this deal http://store.steampo....com/app/213174 for the starter pack is a pretty good one and you can buy it and apply the code to your existing account.

Downloaded pretty quick, as opposed to taking hours with Pando Media Booster. Another thing Turbine could learn from.. *boggle*

Hmmmm... I hate me some Pando Media Booster, but I'd like to re-install LOTRO on my computer (yes, I know...), as well as some other games (Aion, EverQuest II, et al). I may have to check out Steam again.

Steam is just the distribution. To log in for play you still log in to Turbine.

ya i hate pando to the point that i made my own install disk and use it to install and patch.

have to make a new one after each expac though...but much better then dealing with pando.

now with steam i wont have to do that anymore.

i wonder if steam will be able to handle the updates too....

I really want to get Aion, actually, but Steam doesn't support it right now, it appears. I was going to re-install LOTRO to taunt Turbine from their own game, but you're right. It just isn't worth the bother, not to mention wasting space on my hard drive.

Mwuahahahahaha, now people can track via Steam when I'm playing this damn game!

I know a few of my buddies will love this, as they often ask me 'Hey, are you playing now?' :P

And this beats Pando by an infinite margin. Now I don't need to store the damn installation files on my drive anymore! Yay, space freed up!

You don't have to do the download for friends to see that you are playing LOTRO via Steam, just add LOTRO as one of your games.

Well, I do love the in-game steam chat feature though. And I want to track my playing time to see how much of a life I am lacking. ;)

Actually, I've tried once to add lotro as a non-steam game, but that didn't go very well. So I gave up on it. This is easier.
