A couple of quick things. First, the insults and attacks directed at other players is completely unacceptable. It stops now, or the thread does. Simple as that.

Second, I bring good news. We've sat down and gone through this entire thread and taken a look at your suggestions. With our next update we're going to make some changes to the apparel dummies as follows

Apparel Dummy is no more. They'll now be called Mannequins
The sparkles and glow will be removed
We'll be removing a number of the Mannequins from the game in some of the places we agree are inappropriate. Such as Lothlórien and Rivendell and a number of others.

Finally, we'll continue to make adjustments and see if we can't incorporate some of your ideas in future updates. We're even considering allowing players to decide on which cosmetics they should wear or possibly design outfits for them.

And before anyone asks, they aren't moving inside with the next update, but it's a suggestion we're considering.

What's that, two reactions to player outrage in the same quarter?

Progress? Improving something that shouldn't have been added to the game is progress? They'll still be in game and Sapience said they won't be removing as many as people would like. And the reason they can't do more? The expansion.

I see a pattern here... Turbine does something obviously stupid (I can't believe that an entire company wouldn't realise that). Players get angry. Turbine 'fixes' that problem. Majority are happier and fanboys get more 'Turbine listen to us' ammo.

It's as if Turbine are starting to do bad things on purpose so that when they resort to their original plan, they seem like they're better for it. Pre-purchases and now apparel dummies. Bets on what's next?

Progress in the sense that today is better than yesterday. I probably won't stand around those dummies shouting and waving my axe at them as I did last night. It would be nice to be able to set fire to them with kindling though.

This is why I can't call it progress. Every single time they add something store related there's a backlash. They saw this coming. They know what they're doing.

Maybe better than yesterday but still worse than before. Honestly, as conspiratorial as it is, I think I agree with Doro  ( :r ) They are doing stuff so badly on purpose so they can get away with "listening to the fans" and yet still keeping the rubbish in as they wanted in the first place.

They have these dummies in the starter areas.

They are. I do not have a full list of what is and isn't being removed in the next update. I can almost promise it won't be everything you'd all like to see removed, simply because the team is primarily focused on Rohan with beta about to release and pulling significant time away from that to address this is not likely to happen. So any details beyond what I stated above will probably have to wait until the release notes. Any additional changes will likely be post-Rohan release.

Correction, They have these mannequins in the starter areas. They're getting rid of the dummies.

It is an improvement, but as many have already said and I agree with, Turbine knew exactly what they were doing from the get-go. This is just like with RoR pre-order, when they didn't mention an instance cluster, then Sap said there would be one in a future update included in RoR purchase, then Celestrata said the IC wouldn't be part of RoR, then they changed their minds later.

Step One: Do something ridiculously wrong.
Step Two: Wait to see how the players react. If the reaction isn't overwhelmingly negative, leave it as-is. Otherwise...
Step three: Pull back what was done a little, so it looks like the company is listening to players, but in the end, the change remains in the game.

This is how Turbine will be managing the game from now on, mark my words.

If they agree that the ads are inappropriate in certain situations, does that mean that they agreed all along and put them in anyway, or does that mean that the decision makers are really that far out of touch with their customers, only realizing their mistake after a virtual riot breaks out?

If removing the ads would take resources away from Rohan, doesn't that also imply that adding the ads took resources away from Rohan? Are they admitting that they took dev time away from a project that is already months behind schedule just to develop something that they knew was inappropriate?

I know this is quickly turning into a no-win situation for Turbine, but they could at least try to keep the curtains closed on how incompetent they've become as a company.

Those dummies should log how many "negative emotes" they get a day and post them weekly in forums, would be a fun figure (useless figure, but fun).

I definitely agree that this was planned. When have turbine ever before admitted a complete failure so quickly?

And I fully believe MMO Troll's prediction.

And now all kinds of stupid ideas are dancing in my brain after Doro saying 'bets on what's next'. There's no shortage, but I'm sure turbine has the stupid category aced.
