"If someone who always supports a position is a shill , does that mean someone who refutes it constantly is a shill for the opposition?" - Sapience (@rickheaton), a shill
"Pssst, people who think they're being sooper sekret.... I see you! :)" - Sapience (@rickheaton), waxing paranoid
"Hate to ruin a perfectly good conspiracy theory, but I never worked on Hellgate. Sorry folks." - Sapience (@rickheaton), former associate of Ping0
"One last thing I'd like to mention is that there seem to be some former members of the community who have decided to add to the concerns and issues surrounding the transition by misrepresenting some facts. Primarily, banning is almost always a last resort. It usually takes a willful act (indeed a series of them) on the part of the party being removed from the community to get banned. Multiple warnings, infractions, and appeals are usually involved. Often times warnings are informal and sent via PM or a simple post asking those involved to change the subject, refrain from posting certain topics, etc." - Sapience, LOTRO Forum Topic Clarification Needed On Profanity Community Guideline
"I may never leave work. Tornados keep popping up between me and home." - Sapience (@rickheaton), with a poor understanding of justice
"... this *is* Sapience we're talking about, he's a big, mean....****Bzzzzzztttt****cli ck****Account Deleted...****" - Arbalister, Sapience's fanboy, in a moment of rare insight.
"It's not what you say, it's how you choose to say it." - Sapience, LOTRO CSM
"It is not what you say that matters, but the manner in which you say it ..." - William Carlos Williams, avowed socialist

I think 4 festivals a year is reasonable, with periodic weekend events like the pirate thing or Bilbo's Birthday. It tends to make the unique enough to warrant attention (and unobtrusive enough that they can be ignored). The treasure hunt and farmers faire could also be periodic events - ones that go once a month or so. Given that they are now designing a signature event that's directly tied to the store, offering periodic weekend events would probably drive more sales (as would decreasing the cost of the festival items). I can only assume there will be a similar store-tie in for the farmer's faire.
But now, the number of full-blown festivals have gotten to the point where they run into one another, or they go on so long they become tedious, or the devs can't get their act together and other, more important things get put off. For example, The Spring fest & anniversary stuff went together fairly nicely. While I do think the 5th anniversary did need more emphasis, they could have had both things going on simultaneously. As per usual, tho, the devs couldn't get it together, and Spring fest was delayed to the end of May, pushing the farmer's faire further out, which pushes the Summer Festival out. At this rate, we'll be celebrating the Autumn festival in December.
What's more, I often feel like I shouldn't bother with the festival, especially when a key item and cosmetics will be made available in the store a few weeks later. I really got peeved when, after I worked extremely hard to gather those damn flowers to get the Steed of the Jester (I'm also a mount collector), only to have it show up in the store (the only mounts I don't have are the store mounts, other than a few I've won in lottos - I refuse to pay 20 USD for a something that is only usable for a single character. At least the Jester steed is only 995TP).
But what really steams me is that they are expending so many resources on this kind of fluff - like those stupid manniquins - and ignoring the major issues in the game, like the ongoing lag issues, the obstinate Draigoch and Orthanc bugs, and graphics issues. I know the Faire was in development long before Update 6 and the major issues that resulted, but this is an ongoing theme with Turbine.
Oh, well, I guess I'll end my rant now...

"Our engineers are taking another in depth look at server performance issues and would like those of you who are experiencing these issues to share the following information with them." They're checking out the lag.......... again... which makes me wonder how long ago they had stopped looking for it.... note how (i think it slipped out) Sap finally says ***server performance issues***
So see, Turbine's working on lag, not just fluff.. betcha this time their engineers give it a whooooooooooole week's attention =P

Now LOTRO isn't in quite the same boat, but the more holiday and seasonal events they create, the closer they get to that "continual event" problem that Rift was dealing with. Some people enjoy that sort of thing, but for many, they just want to have a break here or there, and enjoy the game without any special events cluttering things up. If Turbine continues on this path, they may find themselves in the same pickle Trion was in last year.

Have you not noticed that most festivals now come with a store bought element, perhaps to reset daily quests or something. The only reason Turbine develop content is if there is a store tie in somewhere, there will be here to.

Trick is enjoy the fluff if you likes it a few days, then ignore all festival except that daily til you got the horse.. after that up to you if you wanna go back to "normal" festival duties or move on with your life. Too much of something is rarely good.
