I think it's obvious at this point we're past the point of no return. If Turbine couldn't convince players to come back with a Rohan Expansion they're not going to be able to do anything better with less staff. I realize that this game could drag on for years in this state, but now I wonder if the new instance cluster isn't in jeopardy now. Most of the player on my server are basically leveling alts waiting on the new instances. Could Rohan really get any worse?

I haven't really given it thought. Maybe I'll leave it running, maybe I'll shut it down, maybe I'll change it to a GW2 forum.. It's all really speculation. Once they start shutting down servers I'll give it some more thought ;)

Fair enough. Thanks for the reply. I'm sure you'll plenty of time to decide even after the announcement of server closings.

I have a question for the admins. Since the news makes it appear like possibility in the near future, I would like to know what will happen to these boards if LotRO goes under.

Also I'd watch to see what happens with AC. In June it took them 2 weeks to renew a domain for that game and I'd be willing to bet it would be the first to go.

They have curiously stopped tracking Community Mod posts in the Dev Tracker...
This has been brought before so I'll just repeat what Sapience has stated before; the community team has the ability to choose whether or not their post show up in the tracker. My take is, they were never tracked in the first place, but they could add their post if they thought it was helpful or necessary.

I would bet that they develop on modern systems and it is a major nightmare for them to get low end 32bit systems to run LoTRO again for each new release. They fail reliably.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say that it's cheaper for them to just use virtual systems for that. Money may also play a factor in it the 64-bit client as that would mean additional licensing fees to Microsoft. Turbine aren't alone in this. It's pretty hard to find developers who offer a 64-bit client of any software on Windows OSes.

Are you sure that it is problem of users running too much background programs? Even opened Firefox with 10 tabs and Firefox is memory hog, takes around 300 mb.  Don't have WinAmp, but I have similar programm called AiMp and it takes less than 10 mb.
Surely there are here on this forums people with 32-bit OS'es that can show their Task Manager memory monitor after playing Lotro a bit.

Besides Lotro DID not cause problems like that and suddenly it started after update 6. It would be navie to think that suddenly all those players started to use much more of background programs.

Anyway - I am bit disappointed that Windows 8 also has 32-bit versions.  Good that new some companies start to ditch 32-bit slowly.  Think I've read that all next games using Frostbite 2 engine that will release in second part of 2013 or later will be 64-bit only.
Sapience was referring to specific crashes in his statements and that some them can't be fixed by Turbine. This is not the only problem that can cause lag and crashes, it's just one of many. Also, you are correct in that the issue I've describe will not pop up suddenly. It one that creep in as applications take up more memory with new version as they as add features.

As for Windows 8, 64-bit is relatively new to ARM and Intel's Atom processor, so they are both in their transitionary stage between the two architectures. I would like to see 32-bit go away as well but it's just not possible yet.
