    Development stop? Game shutdown date?

The new producer's letter makes it sound like these predictions are way off base (as per usual).

People have been predicting the end of LOTRO for over 7 years now since it went F2P in 2010.

  2. This is interesting

Amazon's LOTR series will be set in Middle-earth and explore new storylines preceding Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring. The deal includes a potential additional spinoff series.

So it is a new story set in Middle-Earth, not the story of the ring.

I wonder if they will use characters for the books or all new ones.  They could do something with Aragon/Strider as a Ranger

That's the single most devious and under-handed bit of work I've ever seen from a games company. "Oh no, did we set you up to get your ass handed to you? Well, why not try this pay-to-win item?"

Another company I can scratch off my ever-shortening list to buy from.

Dont forget the part where you play against crappy players once you buy something so that you win making you think what you bought was what made you win, so you feel more inclined to buy again

  4. Activision has been grated a patent for a new matchmaking system that is designed to entice players to spend money on microtransactions.

    A quote from the patent

"For example, in one implementation, the system may include a microtransaction engine that arranges matches to influence game-related purchases," according to the patent. "For instance, the microtransaction engine may match a more expert/marquee player with a junior player to encourage the junior player to make game-related purchases of items possessed/used by the marquee player. A junior player may wish to emulate the marquee player by obtaining weapons or other items used by the marquee player."

This is really taking the piss.  Now they want to pair you up with people who have spend money, so you have a hard time competing so that you will go spend money.

    More quotes

"In a particular example, the junior player may wish to become an expert sniper in a game (e.g., as determined from the player profile)," according to the patent. "The microtransaction engine may match the junior player with a player that is a highly skilled sniper in the game. In this manner, the junior player may be encouraged to make game-related purchases such as a rifle or other item used by the marquee player. "

Doing so may enhance a level of enjoyment by the player for the game-related purchase, which may encourage future purchases," according to the patent. "For example, if the player purchased a particular weapon, the microtransaction engine may match the player in a gameplay session in which the particular weapon is highly effective, giving the player an impression that the particular weapon was a good purchase. This may encourage the player to make future purchases to achieve similar gameplay results."

Social engineering to get people to spend money on microtransactions.

(Yes, I know the Warcraft movie tanked domestically but I'm pretty sure the international total made sequels look like a good idea to someone, haven't looked into it recently though.  And it's WB.  Not the brightest bulbs in the box, but boy are they greedy.)

Made around $433 million in total, around 89% internationally and 11% in the USA.  It cost around $160 million.  Not sure there is any money in sequels

I know it was garbage, the speed of the rescue, the sacrificial extras etc... It's still very entertaining garbage though

I best heard this season described as a season of moments and when you look back there was a lot of really good moments.

I get it people are upset that few people died other than red shirts, but we are so near the end there is not much time left to introduce new characters so you need to keep people around to have the big battles to come.

That entire part of the episode was one giant ass pull that kinda killed the show because there's no way for the bird to get all the way across the continent and a dragon to fly back before they would have been all screwed... especially when you factor in the time it would have taken for someone to run south to the wall.

That entire section of the episode was one giant facepalm with the sole purpose of deus ex machina'ing an ice dragon and a very angry jack in the box.

easy fix, just have someone Thormand If I have to spend a third night out here i am going to fuck one of you

  8. The mass unbanning of accounts is largely pointless.  Most people who had a ban wont go to the forum, hell many wont even play the game any more, so they will not know they are unbanned as there is not much chance of SSG emailing them to let them know.

So it is a PR move that sounds great but in reality is meaningless

Haha, thanks for the laugh! MMD!

Edit: I find it fascinating that this is about THE most iconic villain headquarters and they go about it by showing three people fighting single fights in a scene void of any other enemy.

They should have shown some shots from the new raid that came out with the expansion, oh wait never mind

You're also missing a point here: sometimes it doesn't make sense for you to solo something epic, and being able to solo said epic thing actually makes it less of a threat.

Look at it this way, if the entire Mirkwood arc had allowed you to solo all the way to the top of BG, wouldn't that had made BG's LT fight a little less epic for the sake of a trivial minority of the playerbase?

Not all content has to be solo, but the main story line should have a solo option.  So have raids and such, but open up the main story to everyone

And yet, millions of players (at least going by https://ffxivcensus.com/ and the following Reddit post) tend to agree with me =/

      Reveal hidden contents

Note: Due to the way FFXIV is designed, a player can role one character and have all classes (battle and crafting), so it's a valid assumption that one char = one player.

Just think how many more they could have if the didnt exclude some play styles
