  1. Oh wow, that's a pretty painful, and telling, letter.
  2. Even a broken clock is right twice per day. (Additionally, it makes no sense to just dismiss the period during which a company was not 'hated' as an irrelevant prelude to the period during which it 'is'. The lack of 'hatred' during the earlier period was a consequence of company policy/marketing/etc., in precisely the same way as it will be during the period during which it is 'hated'. The question thus is why companies (if they do so) choose to start behaving differently, even though at an earlier time they were quite able to keep going.) So we'll see about your other 'predictions'.
  3. Few quasirandom thoughts provoked by reading this thread, and a few user reviews. 1. I have to say that I am happy that I didn't invest in this kickstarter at the time. Characters are by and large bland, storyline so-so, immersion/pull factor lacking. It may be "faithful" to iwd1/2 in a way, at least story-wise. I haven't replayed bg1 for years, so I don't know whether that game "was" better, or that it is just a case of my expectations being lower at the time, and them have changed along with the changes in game companies' ideas about what makes for a good gaming experience. 2. personally, I don't really have principled objections to crowd funding, other than insofar as I'm lining the pockets of companies whose business model is rent extraction. And KickStarter, as an intermediary, demands a pretty big cut for bullshit 'services', which makes me not want to back projects this way. In the case of Obsidian, specifically, I do think that they're trying to have their cake and eat it. I think the various arguments about "it wouldn't be fair to backers who paid a premium price" don't really hold water, as that assumes that the only reason to back some project is to pay a lower price, as opposed to making something possible that otherwise wouldn't have happened, etc.. I would be happy to pay something on the order of €5-7 for this game, but not a great deal more. Yes, quite a bit of work went into it, and you can get a lot of play time out of it, but so far (30ish hours played) I can't really say I'm getting much else out of it other than passed time. Too bad, i guess.
  4. Don't worry.. your country is hardly the first to do so in the "modern" age.. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/govbeat/wp/2014/09/26/following-reports-of-forced-sterilization-of-female-prison-inmates-california-passes-ban/ That said, and extrapolating a bit, this shit is just wrong, not least because of the fact that there are many less invasive ways of keeping this woman from becoming pregnant again. Secondarily, I wonder who she is having unprotected sex with, why this/-ese person/s is/are refusing to use contraceptives; and why, if this woman is indeed barely functioning, she is living on her own, without anyone to guide her in her decision-making. (Yes, this can also be problematic, but rather less so than letting doctors with knives do the "problem-solving" for her..) As for the question whether forced sterilization should be allowed generally: the answer to the question whether we should allow others the right to enforce their views wrt whether others' (having) children is desirable seems to me simply no. Yes, there are really people out there who are exceedingly inept parents; but I don't really see how addicted parents are qualitatively worse than other types of parents whose behavior harms people close to them; nor do I think it reasonable to assume that they will always remain that way. If anything, fix fucking society so that people stop choosing to lose themselves in drugs. Drug abuse always happens to poor people/people with no "opportunities". Opportunities can be created; the reason that doesn't happen is because people/society have fucked up ideas about how people "deserve" their lot in life. Forced sterilization is just 1 way of making it easier to look away from the real problem, because it allows people who self-describe as 'liberal'/middling sorts (i.e., people who see themselves as apolitical) to feel less queasy over the state of society, and to keep supporting the overall status quo.
  5. I never played TFU, and the metacritic scores are far from promising. Is EaW any good when viewed as an RTS (rather than as a SW Universe RTS)?
  6. Loyalty is 1 thing, but feeling loyal towards people who haven't logged in for 5 years, and who obviously don't feel the need to reciprocate said loyalty, seems a tad silly. I am sure you can find a few other people willing to join a kin, without using the kin chat. (Perhaps you can force everyone who joins to deselect the kin chat, so that they can't "accidentally" type in it and disturb the peace?)
  7. if anyone needs a Win7 Pro key (for upgrade to win10), it's being sold for €23 here atm: http://www.kinguin.net/product/98454/windows-7-professional-oem-key-sp1-1422274009-631338/
  8. how can you not love those teletubby colors? I hear they were invented in the UK...
  9. Don't really get why, if this is the cause, the lag is/was generally worst during the lonely mountain raids, EM (which has no layering), etc..
  10. Quite so. I generally only start considering buying a game when it's 75% off 'list', and generally then only after they've halved the list price from the price quoted at release. But I guess others feel differently about game pricing, given that prices for all media (movies included) have been ridiculous since forever..
  11. OIC. "I'm not going to comment, except insofar as I'm going to ventilate my unargued opinion, whilst refusing to substantiate it in any way, shape or form." Class act.

  14. With regard to "Enhanced editions": afaik there already are community high-res mods available for BG 1+2, IWD 1+2 which are more stable than the commercial versions that have been released thus far.
  15. that'd be quite a feat. most of the time, airplanes only carry a bit more fuel than they need to get to their destination; and DG is about twice as far from Surabaya as Singapore is.
