  1. 8+ hours worth though? You'd expect that amount of downtime for the rollout of a new patch or expansion, not routine maintenance.
  2. More extended downtime, with no explanation. There's definitely something to be said about a "need to know" philosophy, but surely the idiots who still sub to such a piss-poor game NEED to know why they're never able to play the game they're paying for, right?
  3. From his Twitter profile; Gamer for life! Community Manager for Standing Stone Games. NOTE: This is my personal account, and should not be used for any company-related questions. Proceeds to use his personal account for a company-related job search. That just about sums him up.
  4. https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?682529-Example-communication-for-server-outages-SSG-can-use-it-as-blueprint&p=8032255#post8032255 Now to LOTRO: Cordovan Community Manager That is Cordovan's self proclaimed job title. I didn't give it to him, none of the posters here did either, he was given this title by the company he works for. So, DO YOUR GODDAMN JOB and manage the community. Talk to it, inform it, and if the lawyers (as some suggested) limit what you can say, get from them what you can say, and pass that on. What you can not do, is be a "community manager" who never talks to the community. Quality post. A shame he'll be banned for telling the truth.
  5. Has any other MMORPG ever been plagued with connectivity issues that were "beyond the control" of the Developers to fix? I know Star Wars Galaxies was torpedoed by its own developers, but that was game design, not connectivity. I can't think of any other game that went tits up for over a month the way LOTRO has.
  6. Cordovan is having a complete meltdown in this thread; https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?682529-Example-communication-for-server-outages-SSG-can-use-it-as-blueprint SO much asskissing from sycophants. But lots of dissatisfied subscribers as well, who are fed up with the lies and the bullshit. The ONLY communication from him or anyone else about whatever the Hell is going on amounts to little more than "We can't tell you what's wrong, but it's not our fault, now let me distract you with shiny new pixels you can eventually buy." It's pathetic how he's trying to act like the victim here.
  7. Oh it's definitely an act. He loves to play the victim. LOTRO has never had a good Community Manager, which is one of the chief reasons LOTRO has never had a strong community. SSG has absolutely no idea what's wrong with the servers. That's why they're so mum. That's why they're claiming it's beyond their control. That's why he's sticking with the "I can't say anything" mantra. If it were a DDoS, they could discuss that. It would be the PERFECT excuse to get them of of hot water with the subscribers. Yet it's crystal clear they don't know what the issue is, what's causing said issue, or how to alleviate the issue. He's just blowing smoke up players' asses in a bid to stall them until there are fresh developments. MY GUESS (and it's just a guess) is that it's all the result of transferring to the rock bottom lowest-bidder data center (which was highly touted as an "upgrade" during the transfer). Perhaps it was simply time to pay the check for that lie.
  8. It's obvious many of the white knights are being compensated in some form to shill for SSG. Many of them exhibit more symptoms of Stockholm Syndrome than actual kidnapping victims, and no one could purposefully be so gullible and loyal to a company that couldn't give less fucks if they genuinely tried. It HAS to be incognito SSG employees trying to gaslight the community. Stranger things are happening. /shrug
  9. If there were an emulator to run the SOA client, it would be virtually priceless. But there isn't.
  10. Dissent intensifies. https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?682057-Enough-is-enough (At the time of this posting, there have been no replies. 10,000 Schrute Bucks on "If you don't like it, then leave" or "L2Read the EULA" or "I'm perfectly satisfied, so your dissatisfaction is unwarranted" as the prevailing responses, each from the usual suspects).
  11. Their slap-in-the-face-insulting "Thank you gift" code has already expired. https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?682030-Thankyougift-code-expired-!-it-is-only-9-45-pm They can't do ANYTHING right. It's just one cock-up after another. I cannot wait to see the VIP tears flow when they find out they're only being compensated for 5 days and fewer TPs than they could have farmed themselves in an hour (if they could log in and actually play). SSG continually shits in the whales' mouths, yet the whales eagerly thank them for it and ask for more.
  12. Pucker pucker smooch smooch. Nothing like the great taste of corporate asshole. https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?681799-This-mess-has-been-handled-so-poorly!&p=8024640#post8024640
  13. Probably straight into the pockets of Russian oligarchs. https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/04/after-sanctions-daybreak-games-changes-its-tune-on-its-russian-affiliation/
  14. More and more die-hards are getting fed up; https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?681799-This-mess-has-been-handled-so-poorly!&p=8024601#post8024601 Unfortunately, they're just parroting the same concerns and gripes we've had for years. Nothing is going to change, and the trust fund whales will continue to support the game in maintenance mode, lowering the standards of gaming and dishonoring the Tolkien franchise.
  15. I'm 100% convinced that Armenna and maartena are incognito SSG employees simply trying to gaslight the community and sabotage the discourse. After all, human being that can operate a computer could NOT possibly be as stupid as they're portraying themselves to be in that thread, right? RIGHT? I've suspected this for a long time, and such a level of blind sycophancy is either disingenuous, or those individuals have legitimate brain injuries. Or both.
  16. From the above article; What boggles my mind is seeing the fan apologists come out in defense of SSG this past week. Yes, there is no call for rudeness and demands to fire staff, especially toward those trying to fix the problem, but even reasonable requests for more information and transparency was met in some quarters by fans defending a studio that wouldn’t even defend itself. “Why do you need to know more? What would that solve? You’re so entitled!” defenders would say. My favorite line was one where a forum poster said, “You’re not on the board of directors, you don’t need to know the details.” No, I’m not on the board of directors. But do you know what I am? A customer, a member of the community, a journalist, and a player. A game service that I enjoy and pay for and engage with frequently has been inaccessible without explanation, and I’d simply like more information for my peace of mind and to manage my own expectations. When there’s a problem, we like to know what’s going on. It’s as simple as that, and it’s not even close to an unreasonable request. And my favorite line; There was one thing this crisis did amplify, something we’ve known for years now: SSG is flat-out terrible at talking to players. It’s not the only studio that has developed this reputation (Daybreak and ArenaNet quickly come to mind), but it’s been bad for a while, and this whole mess showed how much this could blow up in their faces when they fail to address it. I am reminded of when Cordovan showed up here in a bid to rebuild bridges Sapience et all burned long ago, with a promise that he would be more communicative, transparent and honest than his predecessors. Yet when pressed for ANY information at all about the outage during his livestream today, he repeatedly replied, "I don't want to talk about that." All he did was precisely what he did on these forums a couple years ago; try to blow smoke up players' asses.
  17. https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?681724-Stating-the-obvious-is-NOT-quot-Keeping-us-updated-quot Their gripe is, in essence, "We know the servers are down, and we know you have no clue what's wrong. Telling us what we already know is not keeping anyone updated." I love it. I love watching these idiots wallow in the mediocrity they've enabled for the past 10 years. I also love watching them slap down the same handful of shills with their heads up SSG's asses (Armenna, maartena, etc), who are trying to gaslight the community into believing an entire week of downtime with no explanation or update other than "The servers are down and we still don't know why" is normal and nothing to be upset about when you're paying 15 bucks a month to play an already terrible game. SSG could literally hold the shills down and bind their hands and feet while they defecate into their open mouths, and they would STILL praise the downsized Z-tier developers for their quality feces. Now more than ever, I believe those accounts to be SSG employees, or at least on the social engineering payroll. It's no great mystery what's happening. LOTRO players were promised upgraded datacenters years ago, but instead the company opted for cheaper, cost-cutting hardware, resulting in a downgrade, and that hardware is now failing. It doesn't take a week (nor a team of stoners pretending to be IT specialists) to diagnose that. The issue is clearly that they can't afford to replace the hardware, and are desperately trying to apply a band-aid onto a sucking chest wound. But in other news, the cash store is working just fine. Priorotie$.
  18. Well, most of LOTRO's players are eight years old or less. So yeah, it's going to hurt SSG.
  19. https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?672423-Sick-of-it Nothing like watching a pit of vipers eating their own tails, publicly.
  20. There aren't any good MMOs out there today. They're all toxic cesspools of entitlement, exploits, and corrupt developers who couldn't give less of a shit about their player base. Gamers have largely moved on from those halcyon days of camaraderie and cooperation for a common goal. Today, it's all about instant gratification, pay-to-win cash stores, and bad-mouthing kids on the other side of the globe through comms/Ventrillo/Teamspeak/Discord for the lulz.
  21. Per the OF, djheydt is having issues with the 64-bit client on BR. Oh, sweet irony...
  22. I think I finally understand why Turbine/WB/SSG never marketed LOTRO with a substantial advertisement campaign. They're ashamed of it. There's not a single livestream out there that makes the game or its development look good in any measurable fashion. The streams are literally turning off potential new players from downloading the client. That amuses me. So more power to these soulless corporate sellouts who are genuinely torpedoing their own hobby by promoting it.
  23. It will depend on how "Classic" it actually is. If it's anything like LOTRO's "Classic" servers, then I'll pass. One would hope Blizzard is smarter than that, but then again we're talking about a company that made the next Diablo game for mobile phones and wondered why gamers were outraged.
  24. No the original game is still limping along...and I do mean limping. But as you might guess, it bares very little resemblance to the game that made it a serious competitor to Everquest for a time. Whereas LOTRO is held afloat by whales who can't live without buying premium hats and horses, DAOC's lifeline has ever been multiboxers who make it look like the game has double the playerbase it actually does (as of this writing, DAOC has no F2P model, and requires a sub to play, and two subs to be competitive), using their 2nd accounts as buffbots afking inside castle keeps. But not surprisingly, private DAOC emulator servers that do not allow multiboxing have more than 10x the playerbase than live servers today.
