Btw, anyone lately got flying bug? Is that possible anymore? Or is it fixed? Anyone find a place that is triggered? So far i heard it tends to happen rarrely at little delving, and some other places in shire.

Great pics!

For me, usually when I would get the flying bug, it was always accompanied with the sound effect of splashing, as if I had just stepped in water.  The splashing would continue, my character would start to act like it was jumping up and down, and the next thing I knew, I'd be up in the air flying.  The splashing sound probably explains why other people would see your character "swimming" up in the air.

I remember seeing something in one of the recent patch notes about horse dismounts in shallow water getting fixed, so it could be that whatever they did for this might have cut down on the flying bug too, just guessing.

Though there were other times when I'd enter a building and find myself up in the air too, so there may be more than one trigger for it.  Was it you or someone else who was able to start flying by jumping around a lot?

No, that wasn't me, i wish it was. I never got that in pve land, just once in ettenmoorse. Well i will just keep on trying to get that random bug. Although i don't hope too much. Could try jumping but that doesn't sound promising, i may sooner broke space button :)

I looked back through this thread, and the one way mentioned of getting the flying bug (which did involve jumping at just the right time in GV) was later said to be fixed (in Sept. 2014).

Dorf said "I just have to add that i have given outdated advice, the GV flying bug has been fixed some time ago."

abbazabba, I don't know any other info. about this, sorry!

Haha... Tolkien 'purists' are rolling over in their grave or being hastened to a premature death by the existence of these sacrilegious images.  A sullied Shire! A Balrog near Bree!  Great stuff, Ayl. Thank you for sharing.

Oh my, Lothlorien (the 1st shot) is my favorite and most relaxing, calming, prettiest place in the whole game.

Do you know who made it as a landscape? It has a very unique atmosphere, at least for me.

NP Leaf, I grabbed a lot of shots like that while I could to help me remember Middle Earth.

Danchir- I didn't know all of the World Builders or who made exactly what but Ross Glover was their team lead and he is a wonderful guy, really gentle and friendly soul.

Thanks Aylwen, these are really awesome pictures. Exploring could be so much fun if they wouldn't have put in the invisble walls and Archet barriers...

My favorite so far is the "pvmp prototype area". Though they are probably unreachable forever, i would really like to know where unused places like this are located. Are they very far out of the map or just a bit behind the teleporters/walls, hidden behind a mountain or something? Are they on every server or just on a testserver? And once created, do places like this stay in the game forever, abandoned, or do they get deleted when they no longer serve any purpose?

They're all out there in FixMe somewhere. Most of the specific places I knew about-Town Colour and the like-I found through the list of locs on the admin client UI. The map is massive. I recall one afternoon after work ended exploring FixMe on an internal server. I was on a vast plain and seeing a huge mountain range in the distance set my run speed to x6 and headed that way. Eventually I engaged auto run and went outside for a smoke, coming back to find my destination seemed scarcely any closer. It took over a half hour-again at x6 speed-to finally get there.

One thing I've always wondered, and that these images reminded me of, is if the engine Lotro is built on could handle flying mounts.

I know it wouldn't make sense from a lore perspective, but the "chasing WoW" mentality would have belive that the lore would be thrown out the window if they could actually do flying mounts.

Do you have any insight in this? Could we be having eagles and fell beast mounts, in theory? Or does the engine not support it?

Aylwen, i love your pictures!

The best pictures are the ones from off-map places where there is actually something to see, like the floating town, pvmp prototype area or the Tom Bombadil oddity. These have always been the best, even the more easily reachable places like the squirrel farmer, the mysterious cemetery in the old forest or the hidden villages in southern lonelands or west of michel delving have drawn the most interest when people went out exploring...

Love the Evendim pic Abba.

One of the most impressive player accomplishments I remember from my days with the company involved a spot in MM that one could use to escape to FixMe. It was along the pathway above Goblin Town. Somehow a player escaped through it and made his way to the skirmish test area. Alex, CS lead, came over to tell me about it one morning and asked if I could repro what the guy had done. So since it was a slow morning I jumped on an internal build (we had 3 or 4 internal servers-Anduril, Narsil, Hollin, and Charaderas, the last name I'm butchering) with an admin toon and set runspeed to x5 and set out. It ended up taking me almost all morning running around, negotiating canyons and those occasional 'death spots', before I finally retraced roughly the route he had taken. I was amazed at his ingenuity and told Alex, 'the hell with banning this guy, he should be in QA!'. Sadly, his greed in helping himself to free skirmish marks from the test vendors was his undoing.

Thx Aylwen, but yours are better, and you know it :P

Think i heard that story, but the version was he got to eyes and guard tavern, but to me, the crazyest thing i've seen(read) is the guy that exited in mm, and he actualy rounded the whole map (by that time only eriador was there).

Frostbluff void

ScreenShot00269_zpsr2rvcqnh.jpg

Lone lands, Haragmar, south side looking towards maybe Eregion, or far north side of Enedwaith? This pic is very intriguing, i always think there must be something there, but unavailable to reach, aswell, so i guess i'll never know.

ScreenShot00159_zps56410d3e.jpg

If im not wrong, this must be the canyon creeps used to get to behind GV, the mountians on the north side of canyon, are south side of EM, just behind Hithlad.

ScreenShot00073_zpslwbv7var.jpg

From North Trollshaws, looking at where Hoarhollow river ends, it's where the colour of water is darker, left stream!

Well mine were cheating within an admin client. As a player I wasn't an intrepid explorer, with most of the exit spots (such as those in LL) being shown to me by other players. And I never personally reported any to work, feeling it was just harmless fun. It wasn't as if the source code or company account books were lying around out there in FixMe. Most ended up being reported by Johnny Do-gooders who thought they were doing a great service but IMO were just being wet blankets.

Maybe the same guy, maybe not, a few ended up discovering the Tavern.
