cossieuk
This is an interesting idea that is being tested where some of the code changes in the background, but has no impact on what the user sees. It makes it harder to hack websites. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-25845537

Me too. The only reason I refuse to buy a smartphone is because I don't like the idea of being tracked.
androclese
Me too. The only reason I refuse to buy a smartphone is because I don't like the idea of being tracked. You can be tracked using an old nokia or any other non-smart phone too you know, not as quickly as with a smart phone but they can and do still do it. basically they triangulate the strength of the signal between local towers and can calculate where you are within a few meters, it takes a lot longer to work out though, a bit like doing a landline trace, but they can do it. And listening to that video I can see you will still be able to track those phones using the same method, you can't hide which towers pick your signal and that's all they need to begin narrowing down the search. Eillwen
By routine that method is used to find out which tower is closest to you and should therefore serve your device.

Yup, but they can use it to locate two or more towers in the vicinity of your location and with a little math (strength of signal etc) triangulate your position to within a few meters.
