Reminiscing: Screenshots

Recommended Posts

Screen_Shot00054.jpg

This was by far the most fun I have had doing a raid.  The double entendre about a certain mistress of pestilence had all the guys giggling and the women wondering what was so funny.  Lotro was an amazing experience for me and when you join that perfect kinship it is amazing the bonds you form with total strangers from across the globe.  It actually saddens me that many of those people have moved on.  I think what makes Lotro so difficult to leave is the vain attempts to recapture some kind of magic you have experienced.

Wow..... yep.  Absolutely.

The Forochel fog in the Moors, Book 13. I lobbied unsuccessfully later to have the fog effect brought back to zones outside Forochel periodically, I thought it looked really cool.

Greenie, done hunting my slug meat outside of DG like a smart little pup (the burg at Grams slugs is one of the few staples of PvMP that never changed)

I loved the ambience of the fog bug.  Wish they had had it wafting over middle earth more often.

The wargs outside of GV were more common in my time on Landroval. They used to so infuriate me that I occasionally acted as an escort to folks leaving just to foil the wargs looking to pick off newbies outside the steps. Such is the way of PVMP.  I do miss it.

Here's an oldie.. I just couldn't get these guys to listen. I had a grand plan to push the forces of Angmar from Annuminas, but would they listen? To one who bested the Watcher, the Balrog and many other foes? No!

A few more, from a place I was never allowed to visit. Instances in Moria that were never opened.

Non-rangers only get to go clear the path of enemies and run errands.

They don't get to tell the rangers what to do, no sir.  (Except for Halros, who was clearly being exploited by those good-for-nothing hobbits to the point where he couldn't even make up his own mind to stay or go.)

In a sense, you did visit them.  Most of the spaces-all but one if I remember correctly-were recycled for the item advancement instances.  I tested the Dwarven Doors instances and I can assure you: you missed nothing.  They were basically just kill x groups of mob spaces.  One was basically a box that had a bunch of warg pulls in it and you just killed them all to complete it.  They were terribad, basically.  Towards the end of the development cycle, finding them totally unsatisfactory and with no hope in sight, they were mercifully pulled.

Whoa, screenies on a GM character. Can i see more?

I have some left, mostly Creep themed or testing content people would be familiar with.

Skirm testing. Usually I showed up on my Defiler +skirmishmonster to troll skirmish testing but eventually one has to get down to business.

image_zpshwa6nmzf.jpg

I don't remember when this was from, it might have been testing the teleport mechanics for Lotro China's PvMP.

Really  cool pics, lost all of mine when previous computer blew up. Does anyone have any screenies of running to the Rift of Nurz Gashu for the first time at level 50? I had some hilarious ones of being chased by all the mobs around Barad Gularan.

Actually, they weren't pulled.. these are screenshots from my production server character ;) I could enter those doors and do the instances. But, since they were group instances, I wasn't able to complete them solo. Couldn't summon anyone in either.

I am most confused...by production server do you mean Live? Because if you were in Dwarven Doors on Live, that should have been impossible unless they left a couple of the shitty instances survived. But at least three DDs were axed.

I mean Live servers yes. The items required to craft the lamps still dropped. Crafting the actual lamp (giving you the passive ability to use the doors) did not work. I used a Jedi mind trick on a GM when I couldn't get that to work. I didn't know they weren't in game, apparently he didn't know either. He added the passives to my character. Only later I found out that this wasn't supposed to happen.

The doors were there, the instances were there too. They weren't spectacular and impossible to solo. I even posted about it on the official forums. https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?347261-dwarf-red-lamp-quest-question. I wonder if the doors are still there actually.

Yeah, I remember doing those brain-dead "Dorf Door" instances in Moria beta, and they were just "walk into a huge room full of mobs and grind them all down".

Their removal was definitely no loss.

Ahh so you snuck in! I thought I was going mad because, no, nobody was supposed to see them.

I prefer to say that I used The Force :P. I used The Force a lot on Isengard too, but in that case it was actually using the Dark Side more, as I broke my initial character so badly it was a total-loss.

I've lost some over the years but these were some of my favorite shots:

ScreenShot00089.jpg

I didn't complete the raid til long after 50, though I did make a few tries early on. I remember laughing at the memory of all those Lore-fanatics on the beta forums who said the game would get shut down by Tolkien if players were able to do more than run away from a Balrog.  The chamber in the background is really impressive too.

ScreenShot00052.jpg

One of the 'historic landmarks' I really enjoyed seeing...the Balrog atop Moria.

ScreenShot00006.jpg

This was from the flashback instance when the Bridge of Khazad Dum was still intact.  I remember first getting to it in real Moria where it was broken. I don't know if I'd have had a greater sense of wonder if I'd entered the Taj Mahal.  Middle Earth landmarks were storied stuff to me.

ScreenShot00147.jpg

Loved Weathertop and the surrounding area with the Forsaken Inn and Ost Guruth. Of course I was thinking of what I had read of Weathertop as Aragorn and the Hobbits were hunted by Black Riders and the subsequent showdown between them and Gandalf.  I couldn't help but compare it to what we saw in Peter Jackson's movie as well.

ScreenShot00155.jpg

The Bridge beyond Ost Guruth.

ScreenShot00240.jpg

The grinds and other aspects may have been lacking, but I was one of those who adored Lorien for its beauty.

ScreenShot00209.jpg

I greatly enjoyed Mirkwood/SoM. I was a little surprised when I first heard folks here saying it was the beginning of the end, though I now understand why.  Dol Guldur was a grand creation, in my mind.

ScreenShot00325.jpg

One of the sights I'd been looking forward to for years.

ScreenShot00038.jpg

I enjoyed the flashback instances. Both the early discovery of the Balrog and later reliving the last stand in the Chamber of the Mazarbul were experiences I really enjoyed.

Though I don't have screenshots any more, I do have an experience with a rare glitch.

Back pre-Moria, I was waiting out in Rivendell to start a raid. It was back when the kin would gather for a hope buff before setting off. But it turned out on that occasion I was benched because we had too many people wanting to go. So I headed off to the Stable-master because my map was on cooldown.

When I got to him, there was a strange route available. A place I'd never heard of before: Mirobel. I picked it out of curiosity and, instead of getting on a horse, my arms went straight out like I was about to be crucified and then I got a loading screen. When I finally loaded again, I found myself off map and in Eregion. It was filled with invisible walls, even across parts where the game would later allow players to run about, and no NPCs at all.

After exploring for a while (still with my arms straight out sideways), I got a bit bored and went through a glowy instance gateway on a bridge and ended up in Archet. I couldn't replicate it again, nor could my friends while I was still in there. It was a strange feeling when Moria finally launched and I got to go look at Mirobel again.

So you could theoretically now enter the instances and solo them as a L100? Although I presume your hunter never left Moria so is too low level to contemplate it at present.

I sort-of quit around the time Mirkwood had run it's course. Logged in for a while during the Enedwaith days, but haven't played since. So even if they were in, I doubt a level 65 hunter could solo a 60 group instance ;)

I feel kind of wistful when I remember SoM, that was the end of an era. I still think the 5 level bump was a mistake but I'd go back to SoM if I could work magic, some of my most cherished LOTRO memories-from both pve and pvmp-date from Mirkwood.

I feel so old after reading your past expierience(In another posting), reason I was an alpha tester starting august 2006. So while your story telling, I'm reliving my past player expeirience.

After losing alot of those alpha testing(no textures) screenshots. Among not being on the computer that those screenshots are on I cannot post them.  I really never expected playing this long. ( ON and OFF playing at least ) But, alas I'm still playing, even if for shits and giggles. :)

When ever I get to connect once agian to a stable connection to play with my other computer, I'll post some pictures.

My server, Imladris, had a big group photo event yesterday. Quite a few of us showed up in Rivendell for the group shots, then had a few other fun moments afterwards. I'm really going to miss this community of friends being all on the same server. :/

Edit: I meant to include this video of shots one of our server members created recently:
