One thing I loved about the Turtle raid was that it had to be unlocked via a tonne of crafted items. It made the server work together. I spend hours and hours farming in the Shire and giving away all the items to people so the could cook the items to be handed in.

There was also the event to unlock the last part of book 14. These types of events are nice as it feels like the players across the whole server are working towards one common goal.

Although it must suck a little on the smaller servers as it takes so much longer to get to the new content

Sheesh...during some updates, one warden was practically a raid ><

While those events are nice, it's a complete letdown when the content becomes useless after you've run it a couple of times.  (Like opening the Paths of the Dead and that other one from Book 14)  Everyone was speculating there was going to be a 3 man instance that would open up with those.  Such a complete letdown.

Some of my favorite memories of BW in SoA were the early morning Aussie groups. On BW it was primarily the Australian Gods of War. They'd shuffle a bunch around STAB and then wrap up with a sweep of the map. At that point a friend and I would often peel off to mine like crazy in Isen-there would usually be an hour or so lull before the early morning American creeps would begin logging on in force.

Something about drunk aussies, Lotro, and REALISTIC DWARF WAR CRIES.

This is from a series someone shot of a craid I was in during the Amarthiel event, led by Orzossk (who was a signature player on BW in those days) and target-assisted by Flaca. That was a huge infamy day.

Wow that brings back memories! I remember Orz and Zam raids with great fondness. :)

I had no idea you were Nutty!

I never bothered leveling a freep past 10 the first two years I played LOTRO. Then I eventually realized there was another 99% of the world I hadn't seen yet.

This is one of my fondest memories from those days:

We did a big all-Burg 'Moors raid around Book 14-15-ish, when PvMP was at one of its best moments.  The creeps rolled a Troll in response, which didn't go so well.  A troll with 20+ stacks of Dust = about as mobile as Tom, Bert or William in the Trollshaws. He literally could not move.

Bel and drul, I would go for it, but play a class you've never played before, like the Beornling, then the class revamp doesn't hurt as much.

Hahahaha. Thanks for the suggestion, but that sounds like pounding nails into your head to take your mind off having an arm amputated.

Thanks, but my problems with Lotro far exceed class revamp, so playing class I've not played before would not help.

Could be fun to see an all warden raid, they would be hard to stop. They would also be noise as hell

That could be fun !

Althrough in my Lotro and PvPM times (mainly 65 cap)  there were very little Wardens in PvPM.   It was not best class for it really,  I mean shield Warden was very resistant but it's dps was very small as well. Very hard to kill in duels, but aside of that...

Spear warden had not bad dps if you knew how to play, but nothing to write home about and surivibility was preety small.   Especially because warden did not have any escape/fast-combat movement skills at all. Only one weak short slow enemy skill.

Making gambits while chasing manuvering creep(s) was also problematic.

I still had my fun times in PvPM, but I was not that succesful hehe.

Still an all Warden raid would be fun :)

Whenever I think of the Turtle I remember when we learned players were tanking it with a LM or Cappie pet when it first came out. That was one of those more amusing exploit bugs. We thought it was kind of a silly instance to begin with. My team lead said to me, 'Our new instance is a turtle in a sewer. But it's a big turtle. Very scary!'

Don't forget Guards had been "fixed" at moria launch so everyone was looking for alternate tanking methods those 1st few weeks/months.  Very painful time for a tanking guard.

Wow as if I wasn't nostalgic enough..Rok, Naughtypaws, Bingolo, Skully's burg... I was always sorry I wasn't on that day, that was a famed fight. I wish I'd thought do some fraps'ing back then. Even if SoA returned tomorrow on a legacy or private server, no way could such a remarkable bunch of players be brought back together.

Nah.  10 levels above yours and a very scrape the bottom of the barrel PUG did this one night because we were bored:

Crap.  Watching this video again made me all nostalgic for the RoI days.  Sooo much fun raiding.

I do recall a sub-1 minute kill at level 65, just under, 59s, but can't find it anywhere.

Haha I remember one poor BW warg, Gitcha I think, getting a stack of DitEs in the TR CG room then falling out a window. With slow effects stacking with falling damage back then he was entirely immobilized. And yeah Book 14 was the golden age in the Moors. I certainly had some fun in later years but that was the high summer.

I leveled a new hunter on E after the revamp, to see how it went from scratch. But even if I could have lived with the spec trees the content itself was so trivialized it made the effort seem incredibly tedious. When I finally died at level 45 or so in Angmar, I threw in the towel.

Which speak volumes of nerfing as even in MoM/SoM times normal open world content was very easy.  I remember being able to do many small fellowship quests on level on most squischy class -  RK solo while levelling and at least one full fellowship one.    As for normal solo quests basically all were trivial. One with any challange was very rare.   Sure I got good crafted jewelry(aside of bling, rest was not crafted)supplied from my main but still.

One thing that I'm VERY sad to not have saved - the community spotlight for Nopain.

Aylwen, if you were in QA you HAD to know of Nopain - who was the most helpful person in existence and a testing MACHINE - she would meticulously record values each update for all of her skills in various trait setups across multiple ranks, crazy helpful stuff like that.

Back when Bteam were still active, we had a joke about an NPC in Ost Ringdyr named "Pip Diggins" - which is the most porn star sounding hobbit name ever.  Smegrat, one of our officers even had a memorized bit he'd do on voice chat everytime we went to Ost describing Pip's various "implements" ... and we'd all have a good chuckle to see what random one Pip would have spawned with.  We would go to Ost just to kill pip.  Sadly he was removed during changes to NPCs in Ost in I believe HD.

But anyways - Nopain managed to call out her "Favorite hobbit npc Pip Diggins" in her community spotlight, in a way that only the Bteamers and E Players would get... it was her finest moment.

I was indeed aware of Nopain although I can't remember her community (forum) name off the top of my head. Was definitely one of those players I always wished I'd played with personally, based on the feedback she provided. On that note I loved my goofy little defiler, especially from 60 to 75, such a strange class really but so much fun, especially running around alone as a medic.

Couple more SoA times pics I found (like so many, time and lost hard drives cost me 90% of all the SS I ever took)

Flipping Lugs hotspot. I always thought the outposts were a poor substitute for hot spots even if the latter were often buggy (dead players triggering flips, for instance). The OPs are IMO an example of how sometimes you just have to admit you've dead-ended with an idea and yank it out.

The Sarnur Grind, that SoA rite of passage. 'You cannot do that right now'...I wish!

A few character portraits I made one day on my phone. I always wished people would make portrait threads on the OF but never saw any.

This was by far the most fun I have had doing a raid.  The double entendre about a certain mistress of pestilence had all the guys giggling and the women wondering what was so funny.  Lotro was an amazing experience for me and when you join that perfect kinship it is amazing the bonds you form with total strangers from across the globe.  It actually saddens me that many of those people have moved on.  I think what makes Lotro so difficult to leave is the vain attempts to recapture some kind of magic you have experienced.

/agreed. I think the last year or two I hung around living off the hopes that the magic would come back.

@Dakiliven

That last SShot is that WAI or a bug? reason I ask I prob left  the game before any tweaking of the rez overlay.  In any other game I would call that a bug, but I've long since stopped being surprised by Turbines ability to chase away significant #'s of paying customers in the quest to pick up dimes off the floor.

No, 2 GMs came to Thorin's Hall & smacked me around a bit.

Dakilven, the chat in that second screenie is hilarious.

The Forochel fog in the Moors, Book 13. I lobbied unsuccessfully later to have the fog effect brought back to zones outside Forochel periodically, I thought it looked really cool.

Warg hunting, Book 13. IMO SoA was (kind of paradoxically) the best era for solo and small groups, partially because of the hot spots and partially because the huge amount of action meant few bothered to call out individuals in OOC and even fewer bothered to respond unless it was a really hated personage (on BW that would be Furyton, the dreaded burg).

Greenie, done hunting my slug meat outside of DG like a smart little pup (the burg at Grams slugs is one of the few staples of PvMP that never changed)
