pssst...wanna take a ride on the hype train?

Recommended Posts

So sometime in the wee hours of this morning, this appeared. Anet has, apparently, registered it as a trademark:

https://tsdrsec.uspto.gov/ts/cd/casedoc/sn86499179/DRW20150112073503/1/webcontent

The GW2 forums and Reddit are going nuts. Some think it's just more of the Living Story stuff, but I can't recall Anet registering a trademark for any of the previous chapters.

What I'm wondering is how this was discovered. Is there a GW2 fan working at the US Patent Office, or did somebody at Anet leak this, or what?

If it is indeed an expansion, I'm really curious as to how they'll do it. Will it be a more traditional MMO expansion or will it be more akin to Guild Wars 1 expansions?

Well, the only actual expansion for GW1 was Eye of the North. Factions and Nightfall were free-standing campaigns, you could play those independently of the original game. You never had to leave Cantha or Elona, but of course most players elected to buy the original game along with the new campaigns because your character could travel to Kryta and the other "original" regions and play through that content. And get more rewards.   :P

Judging from the "thorny" logo that was registered, it looks very much like it has to do with the current LS arc. If this is an expansion, I imagine Mordremoth is going to be at the roots of it.

Pun totally intended.   :D

Meh, even if this would be an expansion I must admit I'm not even slightly thrilled  :-O

Expansion would be worth the name if it would AT LEAST include one new profession and three maps/regions with a lot of content to play. Add a handfull of new dungeons and a few new boss raids. Some new Legendaries. Maybe a new (real) WvW map ... dunno if I would pay more than 20 bucks for something like that.

With the current progression model, it would have to be WITHOUT level increase and WITHOUT better gear than ascended. I really don't think GW2 will ever see any new race (i.e. Tengu) as this would need a completely new starter area as well as link to the races/story so far. They couldn't just pop out of the floor to make it work. And if they think expansion = 3-4 living story updates in a bundle would suffice ... nah!

For me, the game is stale for too long, lots of people wandered off to other things ... to bring these folks back, that expansion would have to ROCK! And honestly, I don't believe it will meet the expectations ...

... but I wouldn't mind them prooving me wrong  :)

PS: In Elite:Dangerous my "homebase" is the Asoora system ... you can get the boy out of Tyria, but you can't get Tyria out of the boy ;)

Well, the community is convinced, absolutely convinced, that this will indeed be an expansion. Anet is going to be at PAX on the 24th, and they're expected to "officially" announce it then. The final cinematic from "Point of No Return" is being hailed as a "teaser trailer". Be warned, if you haven't finished the latest LS installment this is spoiler heavy:

I admit I'm a little perplexed by it. Trehearne, I thought this whole rigmarole with the Pact setting up shop in the desert meant we already were "taking the fight to Mordremoth". To judge from that cinematic, we're gonna need a bigger blimp. Lots of 'em.

:P

No one cares. GW2 has lost its sparkle a long time ago. Corner spamming in PvE and little whiny kids in PvP made me and my friends roll our eyes and leave.

Skyrim and even lvl 1-65 Lotro is miles ahead of GW2 in terms of fun. No one I know who plays GW2 is even slightly interested in their announcement. It's just not an interesting game.

It's just not an interesting game.

I found that myself. I got all excited about it and when I started playing it there was nothing that kept me interested. All I wanted was a Norn that shapeshifted, and I couldn't even be bothered to stick around to get to that stage!

I'm actually starting to have fun with the whole "Sylvari are dragon minions" thing. My lone Sylvari character is already sinister looking, so last night I did a little light-hearted RPing as a proselytizer for Mordremoth. I chased a guildie across Hoelbrak shouting things like "All things have a right to grow...unless they resist MORDREMOTH!" while my friend yelled "Help!" Reactions were funny.

I think his next stop will be the Grove, when the RPers are holding one of their steamy plant porn sessions.

That is a matter of opinion, fun being so subjective and all, I don't enjoy Skyrim, but had a blast in GW2 for over a year, last fun PvP I participated in.

A guildie has gifted Skyrim to me...we both enjoy GW2, but he apparently feels I "don't get out enough", gaming-wise.  ;)

It's certainly much more challenging than GW2...my cat-lady/thief keeps trying to dodge when attacked. But I find I miss the interaction with guildies and even people in /say or map chat. Not to mention running around pretending to be an "evil" Sylvari.

I do think it will be an expansion, with a new playable race and new professions indeed.

My bet is the mentioned Tengu - they do have established racial city right in the middle of the "old continent" and enough space to have a starting zone of their own, too (Dominion of Winds). There is a lot - and I mean A LOT - asian-themed cosmetics coming out, Cantha gets mentioned a lot too.

As for new profession, with a tinfoil hat on I'd speculate Rytlock and the Delaqua girl are hinting at something swordy/shady. So much tinfoil!

Am I excited?

ANet has taught me very well not to get excited about anything big they are planning.

I sincerely hope there will be no level cap rise and no new gear levels though.

I am definitely not pre-ordering, at least not much in advance (might dish out at the end of pre-order if I like the bonuses and the presented content hints I might actually enjoy the game afterwards).

Was logging in a few days ago to check the newest story part they released, but couldn't really be bothered to start ... ran a few dungeons with guildies, muscle memory still works fine so I got bored fast, logged out and headhunted in ED, to make some more progress t'wards the Python. Even if they make some new race, some new profession, some new maps or whatever ... I think I played that game and same old content too long to ever be thrilled again about anything they release.

And now I just read about them cutting the price to $9.99 and also double XP for PAX South weekend, when giving details about the "Point of no Return" thing.

Guess, I already reached that point of no return, kthxbye ;)

Wow, they're really going all out...

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/this-weekend-guild-wars-2-at-pax-south-an-unprecedented-sale-and-double-xp-for-all/

I'll be watching, of course, regardless of what they announce. I don't envy whoever's going to get saddled with having to keep order in the Twitch channel during the livestream, those can get pretty rambunctious. But it'll still be fun.

I'm letting myself get a little bit excited.  :P

No release date, but here's a few highlights from the livestream:

  • New weapon skills, apparently for all the professions.
  • New profession, Revenant. Looks like the Factions ritualist with better armor.
  • Immense new three-tiered jungle map.
  • Mursaat!
  • Hang gliders (really!!).
  • Precursor crafting (yes, really!).
  • GvG!
  • Guild halls!

Oh, and we're going to learn to speak ancient languages or something. I missed that bit, it's a lot to take in.

:P

EDIT: Here's the trailer for your eye candy:

That ancient languages is one part of the new progression = MASTERIES ! There will also be hang glider flying, allowing you to reach parts of the new maps you can't reach without that mastery ...

Engineer gets to wield the Hammer, Necromancer will be able to wield a Greatsword ... I'm curious what the Warrior will get :)

No raising of the level cap. End level will still be 80.

New precursors and so also new Legendaries.

New PvP mode called Stronghold.

New WvW Borderland map, gives new objectives to conquer and defend, which then gives your server new skills (fast travelling through lava for example when you conquered Fire part of the map)

... all in all, sounds great ... in theory ;)

They didn't tell release date, nor the price of the expansion. My interest is sparked, I'll see what they will release and hope they don't mess things up.

PS: No mentioning of SAB returning  :(

I'm pretty sure I saw a mesmer wielding a shield along with a sword in that trailer. Wonder how that will work?

Yeeeah.. I`ll pass.

Translation, it's not about scootish independence and everyone is shitting on my thread, so I'll come here and act like the little bitch that I am.

I'll probably buy in, maybe not at first, but I've been waiting for something interesting to bring me back to GW2. Revenant sounds interesting.

Have they change The Living Story so you can still enjoy them if you didn't play when they came out?

Last I heard you had to just log in while the episode was "live" to play LS. So the last ep, technically, is still "live". Not sure how long it will remain that way. I know there's a balance patch tomorrow, but don't think that's gonna affect LS.
